Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to oversee and audit fiber optic construction activities in a field-based role. This position is responsible for ensuring that construction vendors adhere to project specifications, municipal requirements, and quality standards across both aerial and underground builds. The role is primarily outdoors and involves daily site visits and collaboration with contractors and project stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete quality control inspections for aerial and underground fiber construction
- Audit contractor work to ensure compliance with construction practices and municipal guidelines
- Attend preconstruction meetings with vendors and municipalities
- Measure and validate completed work for contractor billing accuracy
- Maintain daily logs of construction activity and submit progress reports
- Record and track materials used during construction
- Observe construction in progress to ensure procedures and specifications are followed
- Investigate construction pathways ahead of crews to identify issues or risks
- Communicate schedule updates and field conditions to stakeholders
- Support cost control by ensuring accurate reporting and validation of work performed
- Spend the majority of time working in the field across active job sites
- All other duties as assigned

- Accountable for ensuring contractor work meets design specifications and quality standards
- Responsible for validating construction quantities prior to payment approval
- Drives cost control by minimizing errors and discrepancies in contractor billing
- Ensures compliance with municipal regulations, safety standards, and project requirements
- Provides accurate, timely reporting to support project decision-making

Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in aerial and underground telecommunications construction
- Experience in construction inspection, auditing, or quality control
- Strong understanding of outside plant (OSP) environments
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documentation
- Strong communication and reporting skills
- Ability to work 100% in a field-based outdoor environment
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments
- Familiarity with municipal permitting and construction compliance
- Exposure to fiber splicing or cable installation practices
Work Environment / Additional Information
- Fully field-based role (outdoors in varying weather and conditions)
- Daily travel between job sites
- Work conducted from field locations or contractor staging areas
- Physically active role requiring walking, standing, climbing, and lifting
Compensation and Benefits
- $33.00–$35.00 per hour (DOE)
