Overview
We are seeking a Designer to support utility distribution design projects in the Tampa market, with a focus on preparing detailed construction drawings, supporting engineering calculations, and ensuring designs meet applicable standards and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate brings experience in electrical distribution design, proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS tools, and the ability to support both overhead and underground design projects in a fast-paced project environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare manual and electronic design drawings, layouts, and construction documentation for utility infrastructure projects
- Support overhead and underground electrical distribution design efforts
- Perform engineering calculations, including fuse coordination, spacing requirements, and related design analysis
- Review scope of work and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with industry codes and customer standards
- Conduct field assessments as needed to support design development
- Support QA/QC processes and maintain design quality standards
- Utilize AutoCAD, GIS, and related tools to produce and update project designs
- Apply customer-specific standards and operating requirements to design deliverables
- Support project schedules and complete design assignments independently
- Assist with additional design projects and related support activities as needed
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in electrical distribution design or related design environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and GIS for utility or infrastructure design
- Knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution design principles
- Strong understanding of applicable regulations, codes, and standards
- Strong math skills, including geometry and trigonometry for design calculations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete design assignments independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting TECO-related projects or working with customer-specific utility standards
- Prior experience with Pike Engineering methodologies strongly preferred
- Experience with Katapult or Pole Foreman wind loading tools
- Familiarity with Maximo, BOUD, G Tech, or WorkPro
- Field experience preferred
- Telecom design experience preferred
