The Field Engineering Technician supports telecommunications infrastructure projects by collecting accurate aerial utility pole data to aid in fiber network design, make ready assessments, and permitting. This role is field focused and ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, using technology, and capturing accurate data.
Responsibilities
- Perform field collection of aerial utility pole data for fiber network design and make ready engineering
- Inspect poles and document height, class, span length, sag, existing attachments, clearances, and pole tag information
- Capture GPS coordinates, photos, and detailed field notes using mobile devices and field applications
- Utilize IKE GPS, SPIDAcalc, Katapult, or similar GIS based data collection tools
- Identify potential clearance issues and attachment conflicts
- Walk pole lines in various terrain and weather conditions carrying required field equipment
- Upload collected data into engineering systems
- Maintain company vehicle and field equipment
- Follow all safety guidelines and utility right of way requirements
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office and mobile applications
- Experience with IKE, SPID O-calc, Katapult, or similar platforms preferred
