Overview
We are seeking a Senior Java Developer to support backend engineering, production support, and cloud-based application development for partner-facing financial systems. This role combines approximately 60% maintenance and production support with 40% new development, focusing on Java-based microservices, REST APIs, AWS infrastructure, certificate management, and partner integrations. The ideal candidate will bring strong backend engineering depth, hands-on AWS expertise, and the ability to support critical systems in real time during core U.S. business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based applications and services with a focus on high-quality, production-ready code
- Architect and support scalable microservices and RESTful APIs deployed in AWS
- Support credit card partner integrations and partner-facing backend systems
- Troubleshoot production issues, support revenue-impacting incidents, and lead triaging discussions as needed
- Manage certificate loading, rotation, expiration support, and secure handling within AWS environments
- Support monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and observability practices using tools such as Datadog
- Contribute to microservices enhancements and new feature development
- Perform unit, integration, functional, and load/performance testing as part of the engineering lifecycle
- Support event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies where applicable
- Build and maintain CI/CD deployment pipelines, including use of Harness and related tools
- Collaborate with distributed teams and business partners during U.S. business hours
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and code reviews
- Mentor junior developers and share best practices for backend engineering, testing, and cloud deployment
- Contribute to end-to-end delivery from planning and requirements through deployment and ongoing support
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional Java development experience, including Java 11, 17, or 21
- Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Spring Batch
- Strong experience designing and supporting microservices architecture
- Hands-on experience building and integrating REST APIs
- 3–4+ years of AWS experience supporting Java applications in cloud environments
- Experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and Secrets Manager
- Strong experience with Git and Gradle
- Hands-on experience with Harness or similar CI/CD deployment tools
- Experience using Datadog for monitoring and observability
- Experience with Docker and containerized development environments
- Experience with JUnit and ownership of testing within the development process
- Experience with JIRA and Agile delivery tools
- Strong debugging and production support mindset with the ability to independently resolve complex issues
- Strong analytical skills and ability to support incident response and triage discussions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Ability to support collaboration during core U.S. business hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GraphQL
- Experience with Kafka or other event-driven architectures
- Experience with load and performance testing
- Familiarity with Jasmine, Xray, or related testing tools
- Experience with IntelliJ IDEA
- Exposure to AWS Lambda, ECS, or EKS
- Prior experience supporting partner-facing financial or highly integrated systems
