Overview
This is a 12-month contract, field-based position supporting a leading organization in the smart utility industry. The Contract Canvasser will promote participation in an energy-saving program by engaging directly with small business owners and commercial customers through door-to-door outreach.

This role focuses on educating customers about energy efficiency solutions, cost savings, and sustainability benefits. It is not a high-pressure sales role—employees are paid hourly with a consistent 40-hour work week regardless of enrollment numbers. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors, walking for extended periods, and engaging with a variety of business stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct door-to-door outreach in targeted small business and commercial areas
  • Engage business owners and decision-makers in professional, informative conversations
  • Present program benefits including cost savings, bill credits, and energy efficiency improvements
  • Build rapport quickly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the program to answer questions and address concerns
  • Identify and document leads, schedule follow-ups, and support program enrollment efforts
  • Track daily outreach activity, conversations, and outcomes using provided tools
  • Meet or exceed daily engagement goals (targeting approximately 5 quality enrollments per day)
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve outreach strategies and effectiveness
  • Represent the organization professionally and adhere to all policies and ethical standards
  • Work independently in outdoor, walking-intensive environments

Required Qualifications

  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to engage customers effectively
  • Friendly, approachable demeanor with the ability to build rapport quickly
  • Comfortable working outdoors and walking for extended periods
  • Self-motivated with a goal-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in sales, customer service, retail, or canvassing
  • Experience with door-to-door outreach or face-to-face customer engagement
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding performance goals

Compensation

  • $20–$24/hour depending on experience
