Overview
We are seeking Fiber Splicing Technicians to support point-to-point fibre projects in outside plant (OSP) environments. This field-based role involves accessing underground vaults, opening splice cases, and completing fibre splicing based on provided prints and documentation. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in the field, reading fibre designs, and performing hands-on splicing and basic testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform point–to–point fusion and mechanical splicing on single–mode (SM) and multi–mode (MM) fibre optic cables
- Access underground vaults and splice closures; open cases and complete assigned splicing work
- Read and interpret splice prints, diagrams, and testing documentation
- Terminate and test fibre using connectors (ST, SC, LC)
- Install and test fibre closures for various cable types
- Perform optical continuity and basic conformance testing using power meters and light sources
- Troubleshoot basic fibre issues in the field
- Complete splicing work in underground, buried, aerial, and occasional indoor environments
- Perform daily maintenance and checks on splicing equipment
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of hands–on fiber splicing experience
- Experience completing point–to–point splicing independently (not assist–only)
- Ability to read and follow fibre prints and documentation
- Comfort working in underground vaults and other confined spaces
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Willingness to work outdoors and travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Fibre certification (preferred, not required)
- Experience with fusion splicing equipment such as Fujikura, Fitel, Sumitomo, or EXFO
- Prior telecom or underground utility experience
- Bilingual capabilities
- Construction background
Compensation and Benefits
- $32-$36 per hour dependent upon experience
