Case Study: Enabled Faster and More Resilient Fiber Service Activation Through Advanced Network and ICS Architecture

Client: A globally recognized theme park brand engaged HNM Systems to design and deploy high-performance attraction networks across a flagship Orlando location. This multi-year initiative supported next generation wired and wireless infrastructure, industrial control systems, and supervisory platforms that were essential for both creative and operational functions across the park.
Industry: Entertainment Technology, Network Infrastructure, Industrial Control Systems
Services Provided: Network Architecture, ICS Deployment, Wireless Engineering, Supervisory Systems Integration, and Performance Optimization

Business Need

The theme park planned a series of new interactive attractions and immersive guest experiences that required a secure, high-speed network foundation capable of supporting automation, synchronized media, show control systems, and safety monitoring. These attractions depended on extremely low latency connectivity and a resilient, fault-tolerant design to maintain consistent performance during peak traffic and operational load. The client needed a partner with strong capabilities in IT and OT environments. This included network engineering, ICS deployment, wireless technologies, cybersecurity readiness, and system integration for creative show systems. The environment was both technically demanding and creatively complex, and the infrastructure needed to support business operations and novel media experiences while remaining adaptable for future upgrades. HNM Systems proposed a comprehensive architecture and deployment program to address these needs.

Our Approach

HNM Systems assembled a multidisciplinary team that included network architects, wireless engineers, ICS and SCADA specialists, automation consultants, and low-voltage technicians. The work was structured into phased streams that aligned with each attraction’s creative and engineering timeline. This allowed the infrastructure planning to evolve alongside show development, installation, testing, and commissioning. The team began with detailed architectural evaluations for each attraction. This included analysis of network scalability, segmentation requirements, redundancy strategies, and Zero Trust readiness. The design phase verified that each system could meet creative expectations without compromising operational reliability. Following architectural validation, HNM Systems deployed robust wired and wireless ICS networks to support ride automation, show control, environmental monitoring, and synchronized media. This included Wi-Fi 6E, Private 5G, Zigbee, and time-sensitive industrial networking technologies. These systems ensured accurate timing, continuous connectivity, and predictable performance under varied conditions. Configuration management tools were introduced to support proactive change control and reduce human error. Digital twin modeling provided a way to simulate changes before deployment, which improved reliability and accelerated troubleshooting. Supervisory systems were enabled to provide a real-time view of ride health, sensor activity, and operational status. These systems supported predictive maintenance workflows and improved long-term service continuity. Across every phase, the solutions underwent rigorous validation to ensure alignment with AV over IP requirements, encrypted media transport needs, edge processing demands, and performance standards for high-density environments.

Scope of Engagement

The engagement included the evaluation and design of next generation network architectures, deployment of attraction-level wired and wireless ICS networks, SCADA and sensor grid integration, and implementation of centralized configuration and monitoring platforms. The team enabled real-time telemetry, predictive maintenance capabilities, and operational analytics for ride systems and creative show elements. Redundant high-bandwidth pathways were designed to ensure high availability and rapid recovery in the event of component failure. Centralized management platforms provided uniform configuration practices and improved visibility across all connected assets. This approach ensured that the infrastructure serving each attraction could support ride controls, creative systems, guest interaction technologies, and operational systems with equal reliability.

Results

HNM Systems delivered high availability fiber and wireless networks that supported multi-layer redundancy, rapid failover, and self-healing functionality. These capabilities reduced downtime, improved troubleshooting efficiency, and created a more predictable operational environment for park staff. Integration of ICS networks and wireless backhaul supported time-sensitive communication between ride systems and supervisory platforms. Real-time monitoring and telemetry improved visibility into system performance and allowed maintenance teams to identify and resolve issues before they affected operations. The program also achieved successful integration between creative and technical workflows. This allowed synchronized effects, immersive media, and attraction-wide timing sequences to function reliably across multiple systems. The intelligent architecture created a foundation that could scale with future attractions and evolving creative concepts.

Differentiators

This engagement demonstrated HNM Systems’ strengths in designing and delivering next generation infrastructure for complex and high-traffic environments. The team brought expertise in IT and OT convergence, network engineering, automation, security, and creative show system integration. The approach used modern technologies that included software defined networking, Rego based security, predictive analytics, and AV over IP standards. HNM Systems provided a cross-functional delivery model that included engineers, technicians, architects, and compliance specialists. This combination ensured alignment with creative requirements, operational needs, safety standards, and long-term scalability goals. The result was an intelligent, resilient, and future-ready infrastructure framework that supported both operational continuity and immersive guest experiences.
