Case Study: Hyperscale Data Center and NOC Operations for a National Telecom Provider

by

Client: A top-tier telecommunications infrastructure contractor engaged HNM Systems to support hyperscale data center operations and large-scale fiber network expansion. The work supported a national smart grid and broadband modernization initiative that required continuous network availability, disciplined operations, and scalable infrastructure delivery. Industry: Telecommunications and Data Center Infrastructure Services Provided: Network Operations Center Support, Data Center Operations, Fiber Deployment, Disaster Recovery, and Compliance Enablement

Business Need

As part of a nationwide modernization program, the client needed round-the-clock operational support for hyperscale data centers and critical telecom networks. The environment required high availability, rapid incident response, and consistent compliance with service level and regulatory requirements. The client sought a partner that could deliver continuous monitoring, structured escalation, and field-level infrastructure support while maintaining strict operational controls. In addition to day-to-day operations, the program required resilient disaster recovery planning, scalable fiber deployment, and integration across tools and teams supporting national deployment efforts. HNM Systems was selected to provide end-to-end operational and infrastructure support that could scale with the program and maintain reliability across geographically distributed sites.

Our Approach

HNM Systems established a 24 by 7 Network Operations Center model staffed by Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 NOC Engineers. These teams delivered continuous monitoring, alert triage, and escalation support for critical telecom and data center infrastructure. Automation tools and standardized runbooks were introduced to streamline event handling and reduce resolution times during high-volume incident periods. To support hyperscale data center operations, HNM Systems provided on premise technical resources responsible for infrastructure builds, power and environmental controls, and hardware installation. The team supported procedural documentation, access control workflows, and audit readiness activities to ensure consistent and compliant operations. Collaboration with internal data center operations teams helped optimize rack layouts, floor planning, and structured cabling configurations. Fiber infrastructure deployment was a key component of the engagement. HNM Systems coordinated fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and validation across more than twelve hyperscale locations. The team supported both short-haul and long-haul transport designs using single mode and multi mode configurations. Structured cabling designs, bills of materials, and capacity planning efforts accelerated high density buildouts while maintaining quality standards. Disaster recovery planning and incident response were integrated directly into daily operations. HNM Systems conducted periodic disaster recovery simulations, coordinated failover procedures between primary and secondary sites, and aligned NOC alerting with established escalation plans. Documentation, readiness drills, and live failover testing helped strengthen system resilience and ensured operational teams were prepared for real world scenarios. Technology enablement supported all aspects of delivery. Monitoring, telemetry, and ticketing workflows were managed using platforms such as SolarWinds, Splunk, and ServiceNow. Service level objectives and key performance indicators were embedded into alerting frameworks to provide clear visibility into network and application health. Change management and reporting were integrated across Agile teams using Jira and Confluence.

Results

HNM Systems helped the client achieve 99.99 percent uptime across all hyperscale data center sites through proactive monitoring and disciplined operational practices. Incident response and resolution times were reduced by 40 percent as a result of automation, tiered escalation, and standardized runbooks. The program successfully deployed more than 200,000 feet of high performance fiber while maintaining schedule adherence across over twelve hyperscale data center builds. Disaster recovery simulations and live failover validation improved overall system resilience and increased confidence in continuity planning. Strong logging, access control, and documentation practices enhanced audit readiness and strengthened the client’s regulatory posture. By integrating disaster recovery, compliance, and security controls directly into operational workflows, HNM Systems helped create a scalable and resilient operations model that supported national deployment objectives.

Differentiators

This engagement demonstrates HNM Systems’ ability to support hyperscale operations through a unified delivery model that combines NOC services, data center operations, fiber deployment, and disaster recovery planning. The team brought experience across national scale deployments and maintained consistent execution through strong cross functional alignment. HNM Systems delivered a reliable operational framework that emphasized uptime, resilience, and compliance while enabling rapid infrastructure expansion and long-term operational stability.
